What a whirlwind start it has been to the career of Jacob deGrom in the big leagues so far this season, topped of by the awarding of the NL Rookie of the month for July. In the month of July deGrom went 4-1 with a truly outstanding ERA of 1.39, including shut outs against the Braves and the Brewers.
Wins over the Braves, Marlins, Mariners and the Brewers have propelled deGrom into the spotlight and I have to say he has handle it superbly well. He always seems to be cool under pressure and he is fast becoming a favorite among Met fans. Jon Niese could take a leaf out of deGrom's book when it comes to reacting to giving up hits, Niese completely loses focus and before you know it the inning has turned into something it didn't need to be.
Although not as highly touted as other prospects in the organization such as Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard and Montero, he has stepped up when it mattered and proved he can be a dominant starter in the show.
With Harvey coming back next year and the talents of Wheeler and deGrom behind him the future of the Mets rotation is looking bright, bring on 2015.....
Lets Go Mets
