For me the Mets were always going to struggle against the Giants last night from the moment the teams were announced. The Mets are not strong enough at the moment to leave out arguably there best three hitters out on current form in Lucas Duda, Travis d'arnaud and all star Daniel Murphy, and so it proved as the Mets were held to 2 hits all night from a totally dominating performance from lefty starter Madison Bumgarner (13-8 3.21ERA)

You never know what your going to get from Bartolo Colon, last night was one of his poor performances lasting only 4.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 6ER. He was missing his spots all night and was eventually pulled by Terry Collins. The Jekyll and hide performances from Colon show in his stats, Colon has a 1.74ERA in his 10 wins so far this season and a massive 6.91ERA in his other 12 starts. Tonight was a far cry from his last performance against the Phillies were Colon managed 7.2 innings and only giving up 1 earned run.

The continuing situation of rolling out Chris Young every night amazes me. Young who was 0-3 last night is just dead weight on this team, no doubt the contract handed out to Young in the off season is playing a part in this decision. Young in my opinion is an empty jersey at this point, he only shows glimpse when it seems he is about to be cut, and he brings little or no hustle in the outfield. I would much rather see his playing time go to Matt den Dekker who in his last 10 starts for the 51s is hitting .324 and brings a solid glove to the outfield.

Hopefully we can level the series tonight as Dillon Gee (4-4 3.77ERA) takes the mound against Tim Hudson (8-8 2.71ERA). Gee is in need of a good starts having struggled since coming off the DL.

Lets Go Mets
